The “First Skyscrapers | Skyscraper Firsts” Symposium was held at Chicago Architecture Center in downtown Chicago. The stunning new Chicago Architecture Center, which re-opened to the public in the summer of 2018. Bordering the bank of the Chicago River, the bi-level museum, lecture and gallery space fittingly yields vistas of the varied architectural styles that make up Chicago’s skyline, such as the neo-Gothic Tribune Tower, the Spanish colonial revival Wrigley Building and the art deco NBC Tower. Designed by renowned modernist architect Mies van der Rohe, the 30-story One Illinois Center features the architectural style’s signature of sleek and minimalist lines with a steel-and-plate glass construction.
