As cities age in an environment where resources are becoming scarcer, adaptive reuse serves as an elegant solution to preserve character and building materials. Originally an office building completed in 1923, LondonHouse is the renovated concept that emerged through integrating the existing 21-story building with a new slender tower to create a 452-key hotel. By revitalizing the concept but preserving the building’s Beaux-Arts construction, the once-threatened historic site is now a thriving testament to the power of thoughtfully combining old and new. Attendees of this Off-Site program learned more about using adaptive reuse as a tall building tool to conserve resources and breathe new life into prominent downtown parcels.
