Since the advent of computer-aided drafting (CAD) software, the design and construction of tall buildings has become an increasingly digital enterprise. The next great frontier lies in optimizing tall building operations, which represents the highest cost center, both economically and environmentally. It has become increasingly vital to use a “digital brain” to manage the growing number of inputs and outputs of a building’s systems, regarding the building as a living organism with both “autonomic” and “intelligent,” interpretive functions. This session details the many ways in which tall buildings are becoming “smart” through digital platforms, evidenced through streamlining of vertical transportation, and powerful enablement of sustainable initiatives, among others.
