29 October 2019
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

This session uses some of the world’s tallest and slenderest hotel, office and residential constructions as a lens to explore the state-of-the-art within the three functional classes. The increasing emphasis placed upon slenderness ratios has resulted in ingenuity across wind-engineering and lateral-load resisting systems that can anchor a slimmer tower without compromising rentable area. This session also explores the incorporation of passive techniques to harness natural sunlight without excessive heat gain, as well as the logistics of moving passengers quickly to the ground floor, to various amenities and back to their rooms in one of the world’s tallest hotels.
