A 2018 CTBUH Best Tall Building Americas Winner, the American Copper Buildings have become an iconic landmark on the East Side of Manhattan, and have set a precedent for efficient and sustainable architecture in recent months with the introduction of Mayor Bill DeBlasio’s “Green New Deal.” The dancing towers, clad in copper, exemplify a “new modernism” that focuses on materiality, design, and performance in the New York market. The towers, reaching 48 and 41 stories and offering 761 units, 20% of which are affordable, are fully occupied. The towers share an exceptional amenities experience through the sky bridge, which brings a vibrant and communal culture to the project. In a previously overlooked section of the city, the American Copper Buildings have become an example of how great architecture and an unconventional vision can transform a neighborhood and a skyline.
